註1：Make a lark在英式英文中有鬼混的意思，類似美式英文會講的fooling around的感覺，所以這句的原意可以說是「儘管環境艱困還是盡力找樂子」。不過lark這個字在英文文學裡有百靈鳥、破曉或愛人的象徵，所以也有人將這句歌詞解釋為「在困難的環境中找到愛情」，也因此合理判斷這是一首從Dorothea的舊情人的觀點寫給她的歌。
很多粉絲在twitter上討論著這首歌是不是在寫Selena Gomez，我個人覺得不太像，連結也有點牽強。更確定的是，這首歌與同張專輯的 《'tis the damn season》和上張專輯《betty》是有關聯的。Taylor自己已經證實，在她的想象中，Dorothea和Betty, James還有Inez是就讀同一所學校，但《Dorothea》並不是《betty》一曲中三角戀的續集。再者，Taylor在folklore推出時就說到，整張專輯中的歌曲揉合虛實，真假的界線已經很模糊，而這也是他一直很想嘗試的寫歌模式——寫別人的故事，而不是自己身上發生的事（有因此有人把folklore當成一本小說在解讀）而evermore甫推出時，Taylor就明白點出這張專輯是因為他們「寫歌寫到停不下來」而造就了這張folklore的姊妹專輯，也因此讓我覺得《Dorothea》並不是在寫Selena Gomez，不過我想這可能中間有借鏡她的人生經歷。為什麼這麼說呢？這就要說到 《'tis the damn season》這首歌。《'tis the damn season》一開頭便說到第一人稱的主角離開了一段時間並在佳節假期回到鎮上，情節正好與《Dorothea》相應 。泰勒絲也在evermore專輯推出時的說明文章裡明確寫出：「...Dorothea，一個為了追尋夢想而離開家鄉並搬到好萊塢的女孩——還有她回到家鄉過節時遇上舊情人時發生的事。」《'tis the damn season》這首歌也是饒富趣味，大家不要錯過我下一篇要寫的《'tis the damn season》！
